Advocacy campaigns on employee ownership are launched in the light of increased government efforts to develop the field.
We are close to the start of the legislative process for the sloESOP bill, which the Ministry of Labour (MoLW) and the Ministry for a Solidarity Future have drafted on the basis of an expert proposal from the Institute for Economic Democracy.
The adoption of the bill would represent an important step towards the development of employee ownership in Slovenia, as it is considered by the international expert community to be one of the more advanced legal solutions in this area. The sloESOP expert proposal is the result of several years of research and is based on the most successful models of employee co-ownership (including the American ESOP, the British EOT and the Spanish Mondragon).
The proposal enjoys broad support among Slovenian and foreign stakeholders, yet inaccurate information is widely circulating in the Slovenian media, spreading fear and reinforcing prejudices against employee co-ownership. This misinformation threatens the success of the sloESOP bill and therefore the development of employee ownership in Slovenia, which is why we at the Institute have decided to launch an awareness-raising online campaign in the coming months, in which we will present:
- Operation, purpose and meaning of the sloESOP Act
- Good practices we have followed in preparing our expert proposal
- The core values of economic democracy
The campaign, which will start on 24.7.2023, is supported by funding from ACF Programme in Slovenia 2014-2021. You can follow her on our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and YouTube profiles.
