Employee ownership is a topic that is receiving increasing attention in Slovenia. Recent contributions by two influential economists, Bineta Kordeža and Igor Akrapovič, have stimulated debate on the potentials and challenges of this ownership model.
The conversation is serious and the topic is challenging. The steps on employee ownership are, in my view, a historic opportunity to lay new, more inclusive and sustainable foundations for a large part of the market economy. There are many who disagree with me, including some who speak from experience.
The reflections of Kordež and Akrapovič - and others - are an important contribution to the dialogue, but they also reveal the need for further clarification and presentation of best practices from abroad and solutions that the Slovenian ESOP legislation this year.
